Chinese character rendering using serverless-chrome and AWS Lambda

I am struggling to get Chinese characters to render to a PDF using serverless and jsreport. I have found numerous places where a similar issue is referenced but no recent updates. I have tried everything linked from this issue besides building my own docker container to no avail. The only mention I've seen on the jsreport website and forums seems to be :
The re-compiled chrome binary doesn't render some specific fonts like Chinese one. The issue is tracked here with some mentioned workarounds however this doesn't work us so far. We will update here as soon as we find out how this issue can be solved.Has anyone found a workaround that has been effective for jsreport specifically?
