Development to production process

How does the community handle the dev process on jsReports?
It is a great tool but it can also cause problems if a production template/script is edited in real time.
I would like to get an idea of how the rest of the community handles the deployment process.

I am considering a dev, staging and production jsreport servers with import export process between each, but i am not sure if this is the best way.

Without deep elaboration. I would like to point out we have extension which prevents editing of template/scripts.
